Embracer is a six piece, positively charged, heavy melodic hardcore band from Charleston, West Virginia. Embracer has a sound that is very reminiscent to the sound of Changes-era For the Fallen Dreams. Their 6 track EP, Dreamers, gives you a nice little taste test of what’s to come in the future from this band.
The opening and title track, Dreamers, is a very peaceful intro to a pretty aggressive EP. It's a nice start, but at the same time, it’s something that doesn’t really need to be there. The second track, Distance, sounds exactly like something that you would find on Changes. Similar guitar riffs and leads, similar drumming patterns, and almost identical vocals. The clean vocals are the only thing separating this from the possibility of the listener mistaking this for unreleased For the Fallen Dreams songs. The next track, Soulless, brings forth a lot of aggression and features some very good breakdowns. Soulless is most definitely my favourite track on the EP.
The fourth track, Infinite, is an interlude. However, unlike the intro track, this instrumental fits in very well. Like the rest of the EP, it is pretty heavy and melodic, but the only difference is that there are no vocals(obviously). After the nice little interlude, things start to pick up again on Intimidator. The fast-paced, 2-step verse is quite aggressive. The final track, Reunion, has a very nice clean vocal segment at the end of the song. What a great way to finish off the EP!
The problem with bands like Embracer is that there isn't much of a distinction between other bands that fit into the same "heavy melodic hardcore" genre. Almost all of these bands sound identical, and sadly, Embracer is not much an exception. If you’re looking for something fresh, you won’t find it here. However, if you’re just looking for some good music to get pumped up while listening to, this is definitely your band!
