This Wild Life - Heart Flip (2012)

I have been pounding out the pop punk reviews lately and I have yet another one for you. This Wild Life is a pop punk quartet from Long Beach, California that recently released their new album entitled Heart Flip on August 28th. Some tracks are extremely upbeat and happy sounding while the other tracks are acoustic, but still maintain a very happy feel. If you're a fan of I Call Fives or Major League, I strongly suggest giving Heart Flip a listen.

The lyrical theme of girls that many pop punk bands use is prevalent on This Wild Life's Heart Flip as well. There are several lyrics that display this and my two favourites can be heard on "Waste Of Time" and "Wrecker". "Waste Of Time" opens with the lyric "You're just a waste of time I left behind, and worst of all, you'll never say you're sorry" which cues a fantastic guitar lead. The aforementioned lyric and guitar lead can be heard several times throughout the song which makes it one of my favourite tracks. The next track, "Wrecker", features one of the catchiest choruses on the album. Every time the vocalist belts out "I'm never gonna take you back 'cause you're nothing but a heart attack", I have to sing along at the top of my lungs.

The second half of the EP (the last four tracks) is entirely acoustic. I loved the first four tracks, but the acoustic tracks are even better. "Ripped Away" features an incredible guest spot by Nilu Madadi that really takes the song to the next level. "Pink Tie" is definitely my favourite track on the entire album, though. It's extremely catchy and the chords are spectacular.

Prior to hearing Heart Flip, I had never listened to This Wild Life and I really regret that. However, I'm not the only one that has been missing out on an incredible band. Even though they have nearly 20,000 likes, they are still an unsigned band. Maybe that's their preference, but if it's not, I hope that someone picks them up soon because they really deserve to be exposed to more people.
