Truth is, I could never really get into this band until their EP before this full length. Awake and Empty is pure originality. I feel like this band’s fanbase is going to grow rapidly as more people discover this release. I honestly can’t even place a genre on this band.
I’ve always loved this band for how fast they were. I was always a sucker for the vocals, melodies, and sing alongs. Seams and Stitches offered With The Punches’ sound on a whole new level. I was just very impressed with how much this band kept their style, but yet brought something new to the table.
The direction this band went in with this release was phenomenal. Seeing some of these songs played live was extremely enjoyable. I’ve always been a fan of Title Fight, but to be honest the album got a little repetitive towards the last 3-4 songs. Overall though it’s a huge step in a new, awesome direction for the band.
One of the most hardworking pop punk bands around. I've been following Last Call since the 12:57 EP. Let me just say this band has been through A LOT. It’s one of the most honest pop punk releases in the history of the genre. I haven’t listened to an album this raw and natural in a while. Definitely worth a listen if you aren't familiar with the band.
Of Monsters and Men, another super unique indie band. The female and male vocals work so well for this band. Both vocalists have a very original voice. The musicianship on this record blows my mind every single listen. Every lyric on this album paints a picture in my head as I listen.
This band made a huge jump into a different direction with this album. This type of music feels like what The American Scene should be playing from here on out. I was so blown away by how great this record turned out. One of the best indie-rock records in the past 10 years.
Where do I start? This band is flawless. Sure I’m a guy, and this band has two beautiful women in it, but that’s not the reason I chose this as number four. Now, Now is an extremely talented three-piece indie rock/pop band. At times the album feels extremely dark, but then at times it also feels extremely happy. Not to mention this band is incredibly unique!
Colourmeinkindness was sort of what I expected. I sensed the darker direction of the band right after "Spoiled" was released as a single. Basement is one of my all time favorite bands, and this was an amazing farewell record. The only reason I didn't give this the number one spot was because I felt like to do that I needed to hear these songs live.
I’ll be honest, choosing between this and Pentimento for AOTY was extremely tough. To me, this is one of the most underrated bands out there right now. This album is extremely versatile, aggressive, passionate, and catchy all at the same time. This band has a very bright future ahead of them.
1. Pentimento - Pentimento
I’ve been a huge fan of Pentimento since the release of the Wrecked EP. This earned the top spot for me because it just feels like the most perfect debut full length Pentimento could have made. A heartfelt, emotional, punk rock record that will always stick with me.
